The 1957 Nobel Prize awarded to Tsung Dao Lee and Cheng Ning Yang aroused the interest of the public. The article aims to illustrate the importance of the work of Lee and Yang in a simple way, comprehensible to lay people with little or no knowledge of modern physics.
