First a short outline is presented describing the use of microcomputers in education before 1982. Then we discuss some of the most important initiatives taken by the Dutch government to stimulate the innovation of computers in education in general. Next we concentrate more explicitly on the role of microcomputer in secondary physics education. Special attention will be paid to applications concerned with data handling in experiments and to applications dealing with simulations and modelling. We conclude with some recommendations for future developments.
